Reflecting on 2024: Triumphs, Lessons, and Looking Ahead

As the holidays approach, I can’t help but reflect on this past year—a year brimming with
triumphs, setbacks, and those life surprises that keep us on our toes (even the good ones).
Looking back, I see a journey of growth, change, faith and gratitude.
A highlight of 2024 was launching my newest business venture—Colette Harrell Literary
Events. (How did I dare name it after me? The nerve of some people! But hey, why not?)
This venture allowed me to create two Signature Events that I am incredibly proud of and
plan to continue in the years ahead. The Juneteenth BASH (Black Authors Spotlight on
Heritage) and the VIP (Visionaries in Prose) Retreat & Writers Brunch.

Another highlight of this year was stepping out of my comfort zone to attend new book
festivals in unfamiliar places. It wasn’t just about promoting books but about embracing
change, meeting new people, and expanding my horizons. Different can be intimidating,
but it can also be where growth thrives. Commercial break: Check out my new series The
Loving Different Trilogy.

None of it would have been possible without constant prayer. Every step, every decision,
and every moment of doubt was covered in faith. Trusting the process and leaning on
God’s guidance helped me achieve more than I ever thought possible.
Then came my first-ever Juneteenth BASH. I’ll be honest—it stressed me out to no end!
Organizing an event of this magnitude was hard, but the result was worth every late night
and early morning. I couldn’t have done it without my volunteers, family and friends who
believed. The event connected Black authors with the communities they serve, and over 800
attendees came out to support us. I’m still in awe of the turnout and deeply grateful for
every person who showed up.

Of course, every triumph comes with its challenges. I battled fear. It’s a beast of an
opponent. There were stumbles, even a few falls that were eventually righted, but praise
God, I’m still here. I’m focusing on the big picture—lessons learned and plans for an even
better Juneteenth BASH in 2025

And let’s not forget our amazing media partner, Cyrus Webb, who went the extra mile to
provide an opportunity for every participant to be interviewed. His dedication amplified the
retreat’s impact, leaving all of us inspired and motivated to keep climbing higher.
As I wrap up this year and look toward 2025, I do so with a full heart. Yes, there were
setbacks, but there were also lessons—ones that will make the next year even better. Thank
you to everyone who supported these events, shared your feedback, and joined me on this
journey. Here’s to embracing the surprises life throws our way and turning them into
stepping-stones for growth.

Happy holidays, everyone. Let’s make 2025 our best year yet!
With gratitude!
